On Monday 20th February 2023 (29th Rajab 1444 AH in MA) the Hilal of Shaban 1444 was not sighted in the UK to Morocco region. We have also received a negative sighting report from Morocco Awqaf Ministry (login to view).
Therefore, the start of the month based on the Regional (UK – MA) and Local (UK-only) Moon Sighting criteria are given below.
Regional (UK - MA): the month of Rajab 1444 AH will complete 30 days and the month of Shaban 1444 AH will start from Wednesday 22nd February 2023, InShaAllah.
Local (UK-only): the month of Rajab 1444 AH will have 29 days and the month of Shaban 1444 AH will start from Wednesday 22nd February 2023, InShaAllah.

Therefore, the start of the month based on the Regional (UK – MA) and Local (UK-only) Moon Sighting criteria are given below.
Regional (UK - MA): the month of Jumada Al-Akhira 1444 AH will have 29 days and the month of Rajab 1444 AH will start from Monday 23rd January 2023, InShaAllah.

The crescent visibility map below for Jumada Al-Ula 1444 (RHS) shows that the moon will be born on 23 November 2022 at 22:57 GMT/UT, but it will not be visible by the naked-eye anywhere in the UK to Morocco (MA) region on that date or the next day (24 November 2022). However, on 25 November 2022 the moon will be easily visible in most of the whole world (but with difficulty in the UK due to low altitude). On Thursday 24th November 2022 (29th Rabi-ul Thani 1444 AH for MA) the Hilal of Jumada Al-Ula 1444 was not sighted in the UK to Morocco region. We have also received a negative sighting report from Morocco Awqaf Ministry (login to view). On the next day (29th Rabi-ul Thani 1444 AH for the UK), the Hilal was sighted in the UK (with binoculars).
Therefore, the start of the month based on the Regional (UK – MA) and Local (UK-only) Moon Sighting criteria are given below.

The crescent visibility map below for Rabi-ul Thani 1444 (RHS) shows that the moon will be born on 25 October 2022 at 10:49 GMT/UT, but it will not be visible by the naked-eye anywhere in the UK to Morocco (MA) region. However, on 26 October 2022, the moon will be visible in Morocco but not in the UK until the next day. Hence, the month of Rabi-ul Thani is most likely to start from 27 and 28 October 2022 in Morocco and UK, respectively, InShaAllah. Note that there will be a partial solar eclipse on 25 October 2022 across Europe to North/East Africa and a Total Lunar Eclipse on 7 - 8 November 2022 from Europe to South America.

Therefore, the start of the month based on the Regional (UK – MA) and Local (UK-only) Moon Sighting criteria are given below.
Regional (UK - MA): the month of Rabi-ul Awwal 1444 AH will have 29-days and the month of Rabi-ul Thani 1444 AH will start from Thursday 27th October 2022, InShaAllah.
