Not seen after sunset: On 29 Nov 2016, ICOUK member Shaykh Sulayman Gani from Croydon City in the Surrey County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Clear, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye.

Shaykh Sulayman Gani commented: "We have attempted to observe the HILAL for the month of Rabiul Awwal . Even though skies were clear and Hilal on the horizon it was not visible to our naked eyes. So Yes indeed a confirmed impossible sighting.".

Not seen after sunset: On 29 Nov 2016, ICOUK member Eng Qamar Uddin from York City in the North Yorkshire County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye.

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "The western horizon was partly cloudy, the moon was not seen, but a bright star to the left of sunset was easily visible.".

Not seen after sunset: On 29 Nov 2016, ICOUK member Hafiz Dr Ayyub Patel from Abha City in the Aseer County (Saudi Arabia) mentioned that the sky was Clear, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye or Binoculars.

Hafiz Dr Ayyub Patel commented: "Not seen. Few scattered clouds but rest clear. It was not possible to sight Crescent Moon Hilal ".

Seen after sunset: On 30 Nov 2016, ICOUK member Shaykh Sulayman Gani from London City in the Wandsworth Tooting County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Clear, the crescent was Seen by Naked-eye.

Shaykh Sulayman Gani commented: "On Wednesday 30th November 2016 I observed the Hilal in Tooting, South London at about 4:50pm. The skies were clear. It was not possible to sight the hilal the previous day Tuesday 29 November 2016, 29th Safar. So if the hilal is not sighted on the 29th, then we should attempt to observe the next day as it would most likely be sighted the next day, since there are only a maximum of 30 days in an Islamic Month. It was indeed a really difficult observation as the hilal was quite low on the horizon".

Not seen after sunset: On 30 Nov 2016, ICOUK member Eng Qamar Uddin from Pickering City in the North Yorkshire County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye.

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "Had a look at the western horizon after sunset but it was fairly cloudy so moon was not seen (although it was technically possible to do so)".

Seen after sunset: On 30 Nov 2016, ICOUK member Hafiz Dr Ayyub Patel from Abha City in the Aseer County (Saudi Arabia) mentioned that the sky was Clear, the crescent was Seen by Naked-eye and Binoculars.

Hafiz Dr Ayyub Patel commented: "Local sunset in Abha was at 5.35pm. After about 20 min, First sighted the new crescent by binoculars. Then by naked eye. It was almost above the sunset position. The crescent moon was observable for more than 30 minutes".


Announcement for start of Rabi-ul Awwal 1438 AH

On Tuesday 29th November 2016 (29th Safar 1438 AH) The Hilal of Rabi-ul Awwal 1438 was not sighted in the UK/Morocco region. We have also received a negative report from Morocco Awqaf Ministry (login to view).

Therefore, the month of Safar 1438 AH will complete 30-days and the month of Rabi-ul Awwal 1438 AH will start from Thursday 1st December 2016, Insha-Allah.

Note that Saudi Arabia do not normally make any official Hilal Sighting announcement from Safar to Shaban (as they usually follow the Ummul Qura Calendar in these months).
