Not seen after sunset: On 27 May 2025, ICOUK member Mr Umar Hussain from Birmingham City in the West Midlands County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Totally Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye or Binoculars.


Cradley Heath

Not seen before sunset: On 27 May 2025, ICOUK member Mr Modoris Ali from Cradley Heath City in the West Midlands County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Totally Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye.

Mr Modoris Ali commented: "I was walking to the Mosque at 9:07 pm for Maghrib prayer, but couldn't see the moon or when walking back home. I will hope other locations have seen the moon, Insha Allah".


Dewsbury

Seen after sunset: On 27 May 2025, ICOUK member Maulana Abdullah Ahmed from Dewsbury City in the West Yorkshire County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was Seen by Naked-eye and Binoculars.

Maulana Abdullah Ahmed commented: "Alhamdulillah, I sighted the crescent moon from Scarr End Lane (Dewsbury) with binoculars at 21:42 BST and with naked eye at 22:04 BST. The sunset was at 21:20 BST, and the sky was partly cloudy. There were four of us in the groups and I have helped others to sight the moon and take photos".

Mr Muhammad Saghir Dar commented: "A group of us observed the moon with binoculars and one of them [Maulana Abdullah Ahmed] guided me to the estimated location. I have spotted it with my normal glasses [22:05 BST] and then managed to take the pictures with my Samsung S23. The sunset was at 21:20 BST. [Submitted on 31/5/2025 - Admin]".

Ms Amanda Khalid commented: "I wear glasses but did not have them at hand, having to rely on binoculars and phone camera for clearer viewing on this occasion. Normally I can view with naked eyes or with glasses and this is sufficent. The sunset was at 21:23 BST and crescent moon was sighted at 22:23 BST".


Leeds (Seacroft)

Seen after sunset: On 27 May 2025, ICOUK member Maulana Yusuf Mota from Leeds (Seacroft) City in the West Yorkshire County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was Seen by Binoculars.

Maulana Yusuf Mota commented: "A few youngsters from the local masjid joined me here in Seacroft (Leeds) as shown in the picture. Huzaifah Iqbal sighted [the moon] with the binoculars first, and indicated to me where it was in the zoomed camera picture shown. I was also able to sight it with binoculars (22:09 BST) but not with naked eye. The sunset in Leeds was at 21:25 BST".

Not seen after sunset: On 27 May 2025, ICOUK member Mr Asad Chaudry from Romford City in the Essex County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Totally Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye.

Mr Asad Chaudry commented: "Sky was observed for 20 mins, as it was very cloudy, so the crescent was not seen".


Slough

Not seen after sunset: On 27 May 2025, ICOUK member Mr Ashruf Amod from Slough City in the Berkshire County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Rainy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye or Binoculars.

Mr Ashruf Amod commented: "I met with Brother Faruq B. and Hashim E. The sky was overcast and it was raining (drizzle). We took a photo at sunset time. Went to Al-Madani Masjid and prayed Magrib. We then return after Magrib and we can not see anything at all due to the rainy conditions and cloud cover".


Stockton-on-Tees

Not seen after sunset: On 27 May 2025, ICOUK member Mr Atiq Hussain from Stockton-on-Tees City in the County Durham County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Binoculars.

Mr Atiq Hussain commented: "Due to bands of clouds, the new crescent was not sighted from Green Bank (next to Carlton bank) North York Moore's, which had elevation of 300 metres".


Surbiton

Not seen after sunset: On 27 May 2025, ICOUK member Mr Javed Rafiq from Surbiton City in the Surrey County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Totally Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye.

Mr Javed Rafiq commented: "It was raining most of the day but stopped at around 7 pm. The clouds did not clear by sunset. After sunset, it was still cloudy. It was not possible to see the crescent".


Thirsk (Sutton Bank)

Seen after sunset: On 27 May 2025, ICOUK member Mr Riyaz Bhikha from Thirsk (Sutton Bank) City in the North Yorkshire County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was Seen by Naked-eye and Binoculars.

Mr Riyaz Bhikha commented: "The three of us travelled from Leicester to Sutton Bank (Thirsk) and joined another group from York. The three of us from Leicester saw the moon with binoculars multiple times (plus the York group) and the two us from Leicester saw it with naked eye as well, Alhamdulillah".

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "It was totally cloudy and raining in York, but the weather forecast showed it would be clear in the northwest direction, so a group of us travelled to the Yorkshire Gliding Club grounds in Sutton Bank (Thirsk, UK). Our group consisted of seven people, four from York and three from Leicester (as it was cloudy there, too). There was a big cloud break above the sunset (21:21 BST) point, and so the moon was seen with binoculars (21:40 BST) and afterward two of the Leicester brothers also saw it with the naked eye (22:00+ BST), MashaAllah. Many congratulations to our Leicester brothers for their dedication and enthusiasm to travel over 130 miles to join the York group, and they were the first to spot the moon. We also had reports of sightings from Leeds and Dewsbury, so our ICOUK Ulama Panel had multiple testimonies, Alhamdulillah. [This was a UK Record: see Observation Video]".

Seen after sunset: On 27 May 2025, ICOUK member Maulana AbdulMalik Guillon from Puy Loup [1481 m] City in the Puy de dôme County (France) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was Seen by Binoculars.

Maulana AbdulMalik Guillon commented: "On 27 May 2025, I sighted the crescent moon using Celestron 20x80 binoculars from an altitude of 1,481 meters, between 10:26 p.m. and 10:32 p.m. The weather was quite cloudy, which is why visibility was only possible for a few minutes. [Submitted on 10/7/2025 - Admin]".

Seen after sunset: On 27 May 2025, ICOUK member Mr Juned Patel from Monchique City in the Faro County (Portugal) mentioned that the sky was Clear, the crescent was Seen by Naked-eye and Binoculars.

Mr Juned Patel commented: "On the 27 May 2025 from Monchique (Portugal), all 5 of us (including 3 Muslims) easily sighted the crescent moon with binoculars at 20:56 DST and naked eyes at 21:13 DST. The sunset was 20:45 DST. [Sumitted on 31/5/2025, crescent added on 16/6/2025 - Admin]".

Seen after sunset: On 28 May 2025, ICOUK member Mr Makbul Jaffer from London (Mill Hill) City in the Greater London County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Clear, the crescent was Seen by Naked-eye.

Mr Makbul Jaffer commented: "Sky was mostly clear, crescent seen with naked eye".


Reading

Seen after sunset: On 28 May 2025, ICOUK member Mr Faruq Bilbe from Reading City in the Berkshire County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was Seen by Naked-eye.

Mr Faruq Bilbe commented: "Yesterday I joined the brothers in Slough and we couldn’t see anything, not even the sun, due to the total cloud cover and rain. Today was much better conditions, I saw the moon from outside my house, although I had to walk up the road a way to get clear of the trees. ".


Slough

Mr Ashruf Amod commented: "I was walking home from the train station. I looked up and saw the crescent clearly. I could see it for another 5 minutes until clouds covered it".

York (New Earswick)

Not seen after sunset: On 28 May 2025, ICOUK member Eng Qamar Uddin from York (New Earswick) City in the North Yorkshire County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Totally Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye.

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "The entire sky was totally cloudy, including the sunset position, so there was no chance of seeing the sencond day's moon from York today (28/5/2025), unfortunately".


Announcement for start of Dhul Hijjah 1446 AH

On Tuesday, 27th May 2025 (29th Dhul Qa'dah 1446 AH), the Hilal of Dhul Hijjah 1446 was sighted in the UK (Local), according to the rules of Shariah.  Therefore, Dhul Qa'dah 1446 AH will have 29 days, and Dhul Hijjah 1446 AH will start on Wednesday, 28th May 2025 (making Eid-ul Adha fall on Friday, 6th June 2025), InShaAllah.

Significance of Dhul Hijjah (first 10 days)  
1. Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنه) reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "There are no days during which the righteous action is so pleasing to Allah than these days (i.e., the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah)." He was asked: "O Messenger of Allah, not even Jihad in the Cause of Allah?" He (ﷺ) replied, "Not even Jihad in the Cause of Allah, except in case one goes forth with his life and his property and does not return with either of it." (Bukhari, Book 9, Hadith 259)
2. Abu Qatadah (رضي الله عنه) reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) was asked about the observance of Saum (fasting) on the day of Arafah (9th of Dhul Hijjah). He said, "It is an expiation for the sins of the preceding year and the current year." (Muslim, Book 9, Hadith 260)
