The sky was fairly cloudy behind a strong glare of the sunset (18:20 BST) sky, making it fairly difficult to see the Hilal due to the poor contrast (and could have been easily missed). The 10 October 2018 corresponds to 30 Muharram 1440 AH in the UK due to starting the month with borrowed sighting report from Morocco on 10 September 2018, but technically it is the 29 Muharram 1440 since the moon was not possible to be sighted in the UK on 10 September 2018 by naked eye (29 Dhul Hijjah 1439 AH). In either case, 1st Safar 1440 AH for the UK is definitely from Thursday 11 October 2018 based on the actual sighting by the naked eye from many places in the UK.
